History

It was the passionate appeal of a child in the year 2001, wanting to go to school that prompted the founder of this project Mamoon Akhtar to start teaching 5-6 children in his own house in the Tikiapara slum.

As the residents of the area became aware of this “school”, more and more children started coming and there was no place to seat them.

Mamoon constructed a room on his own small plot of land (600 sq.ft.) and the one room Samaritan Help Mission School was born with 25 young eager children flocking to it.

Mamoon rose to the occasion and went from door to door to raise Rs.28, 000 p.a. (in addition to their own contribution of Rs.10, 000).

KING UNCLE (THE LEGEND IN OUR MIDST)

Drug peddling is a way of life at Tkiapara, a dirty slum in Howrah. Even the children here were not spared-their parents used them to hand out packets of brown sugar to customers. But not anymore.
For the first time in their lives, these children are learning to smile, thanks to Mamoon uncle, a librarian in a local school till recently. The 32-year-old good Samaritan grew up in the same slum and was eposed to the same miseries. But he successfully convinced the parents of the 400-odd children not to involve them in drug peddling. Instead, these children now attend a school run by him at his house.

“I will continue to see that these children don’t get back to drug peddling and they get some education,” says Mamoon.
A inspiring story

We are thrilled to share the success story of Sania Quraishi, a standout from the first batch of Higher Secondary students at Samaritan Mission School (High). Sania, from an economically disadvantaged family, saw her father’s tireless efforts to support their family of five as a source of inspiration. Despite financial hardships, her father prioritized education for his daughters, leading Sania to excel in the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics (JEXPO). Her dedication has earned her a prestigious role as a Food Safety Supervisor at Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), where she ensures food safety at a kitchen in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Sania’s journey from our classrooms to professional success is an inspiring testament to hard work and determination, and we eagerly anticipate her future achievements.

A Story of Honesty

Who says that honesty is irrelevant today? Still there are people who are the Embodiment of Honesty. A true example is Zainab Khatoon of Class VII. She has set an exampe of honesty in our school.
She found a 50 Rupee note on the stairs. She searched for the owner but could not find. She could have easily taken the money. But she showed honesty instead. She gave the note to Sachin Das Sir. Later the owner of the note, another girl of class VII, claimed it. The money was returned to its owner by the hands of Zainab. She was praised for her honesty.
We are sure that this incident will be exemplary to all others.

A Story of Honesty

We are pleased to share a heartwarming story about Parsa Alam, a Class IX student whose recent act of honesty and integrity sets a wonderful example for all. While passing by the front office, Parsa found a ten-rupee note on the floor and promptly submitted it to the office staff.

In a world where such acts are often overlooked, Parsa’s decision reflects his strong sense of responsibility and selflessness. His small yet significant action serves as a reminder of the values of integrity and civic duty that we strive to teach our students.

Congratulations to Parsa for his commendable behavior! We hope his example inspires others to act with similar honesty and thoughtfulness.
